The Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria (ADAVIC), provides ‘grass-roots’ support, information, and resources for the community relating to Anxiety and Depression.
ADAVIC aims to reduce barriers to help-seeking by providing a range of services and options that are practical, affordable, accessible, and non-prescriptive. ADAVIC takes a preventative approach wherever possible by providing high-quality assistance about strategies and treatment options, which can often be the difference between recovery and life-long systemic dependency.
ADAVIC encourages self-help and active participation, while emphasising the importance of community involvement and connectedness. Importantly, we attempt to bridge the gap between individuals, community services and specialist mental health providers.
ADAVIC’s services include:
- Telephone, Email & Facebook support, information, and referral services
- Educational Events: Lectures, Workshops, Information nights, and Professional Development
- Social Support: Peer-based Support Groups, Social Events and Online Support
SecondBite rescues and redistributes fresh, nutritious food to over 1,200 community food programs across Australia. In the 2012-2013 financial year, SecondBite redistributed 3.9 million kilograms of food, which would otherwise have gone to waste. This food provided 7.8 million healthy meals for vulnerable Australians and their families.
Surplus fresh food is donated by growers, retailers, distributers, caterers and from public events. This food is redistributed to community food programs that support Australians in need, including people experiencing homelessness, women and families in crisis, youth at risk, indigenous communities, asylum seekers and new arrivals.
SecondBite has an established research team that is committed to furthering our understanding of food insecurity in Australia, and we continue to develop programs that provide long-term preventative solutions to the issue of food insecurity in Australia.
With the generous support of over 600 volunteers, SecondBite is committed to ensuring access to fresh, nutritious food for people in need across Australia.
Sustainable Table is a young and innovative not-for-profit organisation that empowers people to use their shopping dollar to vote for a food system that is fair, humane, healthy and good for the environment. With up to 60% of our personal eco-footprint embodied in the food that we buy, there is no better place to start.
Globally, we support projects in developing communities that help to restore the natural environment and improve food security.
It is an inescapable fact that the environmental issues of today are all linked to our food system. Without a sustainable environment we will not have enough food to feed ourselves, and without a sustainable food system we will not have a natural environment to support our food-growing capacity.
