The Lab Perfumery is not a store, but a destination

Jo Jackson was obsessed with sourcing feel-good products that were also good for her, good for her family – including labrador Ralf – and good for her home. Her obsession climaxed with the creation of The Lab Perfumery, her boutique store in Carlton North.

The Lab is passionate about supporting and promoting Australian brands that are making perfumes; bath, body, face and hair care treatments; and, candles and home fragrances. St Kilda West company Salus, for example, only use natural plant extracts, powerful botanicals and 100% pure essential oils in their spa and body products.

“[Salus] therapeutic products deliver extraordinary results to the skin and the senses, naturally. My product pick is the Patchouli and Rose Body Oil,” says Jackson.

Jacqueline Evans Skincare is also a Lab favourite. The new certified organic skincare line out of Malvern is formulated using naturopathic principles. Only the purist and highest-grade natural, organic ingredients are used and blended synergistically.

According to Jackson, this level of purity is paramount, “the healing power of nature has an inherent ability to establish, maintain and restore healthful and glowing skin. My pick is the Chamomile and Walnut Scrub.”

For a perfect natural fragrance she recommends something different. Well, The Different Company, to be exact. Although The Lab are pro Australian-made, some internationals are more than worthy of shelf space. The Different Company perfumes have the highest concentration of natural, quality ingredients on the market, revealing the utmost “olfactory beauty”, and have even been awarded by Greenpeace.

Likewise, when it’s time to ‘get your nails did’, it’s hard to go past Butter LONDON’s nail lacquer, which now enjoys a cult-like following. Their 3-Free non-toxic line is made without harmful ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene, DBP or parabens.

“I'm wearing ‘La Moss’ and loving dark nails for winter!” says Jackson.

For the home, The Lab stocks plant-based products designed to be the safest and most effective cleaning products. Murchison & Hume, in particular, uses the same technique that is used to clean the ocean in the event of an oil spill – now you know you’re in good hands!

People-safe, child-safe, pet-safe, plant-safe, and 100% animal cruelty-free; Murchison & Hume uses sustainable cleaning formulas with a Down-Drain benefit that has minimal impact on the environment.

Obviously crazy about all she stocks, Jackson still says the best way to nourish oneself is with plenty of water every day. Or, alternatively, with a coffee from her favourite café in Fairfield, Fifteen Pounds!
